Book Cliffs Camping

A small sampling of photos from one of the many, many Book Cliffs camping trips I have made over the years. There is nothing quite as beautiful as a rainy camp in the high desert plateaus. The mud makes driving and walking problematic, but the atmosphere cannot be beat.

South Willow, Stansbury Mountains

In October, 2014, about a year after I moved to Salt Lake City, I asked my friend from college, who grew up in the valley, for a good place to go camping for a night, so I could escape for a while. He recommended South Willow, in the Stansbury Mountains west of Tooele, Utah.

In true disaster style, I did not take a tent. I camped on the slopes of Deseret Peak. I slept with my tarp pulled over a dead tree, the uphill declivity of which I used to keep from rolling downhill. It made for a long night. I would like to go back there, at some point, when I am able to make the time, and enjoy the trip slightly more than this initial attempt.

Miscellaneous Photos

The photos here aren’t tied to particular trips. They are photos I find pleasant to view, and deserving of a space on this page. They are from Utah, and are the one offs that come from my mucking about through life.
