I have been working on a codeplug, built from scratch, for my TYT MD-UV390. My local area didn’t have anything for this radio, so I began to work through it on my own. This is very much a work in progress. I doubt it will ever be “complete”, but it gives a good starting point.

I have set this codeplug up more for North America contact than anything. Sure, I have Worldwide, and other very large area talkgroups, but primarily I was concerned with getting state-side talkgroups programmed.

I initially programmed two of my local repeaters and a select few talkgroups, those that were static on the repeaters. Then, I went back and pulled all the state, tac, emcomm, and other talkgroups I thought I wanted, and programmed those for the main repeater I can consistently use. I reorganized my channel listing to alphabetical order, first grouping states, then tac, then emcomm, regional groups, and finally the wide range groups.

From there, I copied all of those memories, and edited them to work with my talkgroup. Using the TYT programming software, this was the easiest way to make this work. I simply added an “HS” on the end of each channel, more to distinguish it from the naming convention of the repeater channels. My repeater list is my main reference, it simply gets edited for each subsequent programming.

I could spend far more time describing this codeplug, and what I learned along the way. For now, I just wanted to provide it, in case someone finds it to be useful, as I sure didn’t find much out there when I was beginning with this radio.
